Dear Single Parent

Dear Single Parent,

I pray that by the end of you reading this letter that you will be more at peace understanding that you are not alone. As you reflect back on your own situation, wondering how you ended up raising your child alone, let us reflect together. I know at one point in time you were filled with happiness, overflowed with love because the man or woman you were with promised to be by your side always. They promised to be the best mother or father that they could be. You trusted him or her believing that the family you were building would last.

I know you dreamed of having a white picket fence, maybe a dog or two, and a nice yard for your children to play in. However, it did not turn out to be that way. For whatever reason you two split, and you were left alone, to be a single parent. Now, you are analyzing your life asking God “How did I get here, to be the head of this household by myself, with little to zero help?” I know it is hard, I know the days seem long, there is homework, bath time, and play time that you have to partake in. I know you may be tired, stressed, and you may feel out of place, but understand this, God knew you would be in this position one day. He knew that you and your partner would part ways. He knew you would find yourself on your knees praying to Him to help pay the bills that are piling up and the school uniforms you have to buy. Let us not forget, their extra-curricular activities, football, cheerleading, gymnastics, the list goes on, but God has the solution! He has the solution to all of our problems before we are even met with the problem. He said He would never leave us nor forsake us. He will never put more on us than we can bear. He is a father to the fatherless and a mother to the motherless.

Therefore, HANG ON AND DO NOT GIVE UP! When you don’t know how you will make it through, understand that He is a way maker. If He did it for your mother, your grandmother, your great grandmother and so on, then REST, because He is the same God now as He was back then! Single parent you are loved. Single parent you are appreciated. Single parent you are phenomenal. Single parent YOU GOT THIS! If you weren’t equipped for the job, God would have not allowed the situation to happen. Being a parent is one of the toughest jobs you will ever have, but be proud because God said “My child you are strong enough, determined enough, wise enough, to handle this task because children are a gift from me.” When times become challenging reflect on the verses below:

James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

Psalm 120:1 “I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me.”

Sincerely,

Another Single Parent
